So what is emotional intelligence then?

I often get asked this question because it's a term often used but not always understood. Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize and understand your own emotions and the emotions of others, and to use this awareness to manage your own behavior and relationships effectively. It is a key factor in personal and professional success, as it allows you to navigate social situations with empathy and self-awareness, and to build strong relationships with others.

There are several key elements of emotional intelligence, including:

  1. Self-awareness: Recognizing your own emotions and understanding how they affect your thoughts and behaviors.

  2. Self-regulation: Managing your own emotions and reactions in a healthy way, rather than being controlled by them.

  3. Motivation: Using your emotions to drive you towards your goals and to achieve success.

  5. Social skills: Using your emotional intelligence to effectively communicate and build relationships with others.
